Solar basics
Residential solar: is your home a good fit?
2 Jun 2026 · 5 min read
Solar works on most Sunshine Coast homes, but a few things make a real difference to how much you’ll save. The good news is you can get a fair idea before anyone even climbs on the roof.
Roof direction and tilt
North-facing roofs are ideal, but east and west work well too — east catches the morning, west the afternoon. A split system across two aspects often suits modern usage best.
Shading
Trees, chimneys and nearby buildings can cut output. Where shade is unavoidable, panel-level microinverters or optimisers keep one shaded panel from dragging down the rest.
How and when you use power
The more power you use during daylight — or can shift to daytime — the more you save. If most of your usage is at night, a battery may be worth considering.
